identification: Medium to large size, oblate shape and slightly ribbed on the face as well as around the eye. The skin is smooth and thin, pale green over which is an orange flush and dark red stripes. The lenticels are russet.
characteristics: The flesh is white, very tender, fine textured and juicy. Sweet with wine and strawberry flavours. Sprightly. Very short storage period.
uses: Best eaten fresh but also good in pies and sauces.
origins: William Chandler. UCLA, Los Angeles California (USA). Released 1945. Melba x Early McIntosh.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, spreading tree which grows to about 15 feet high. Ready for harvest just prior to the sta of the first period. Suited to warm climates it requires only hours below 45 degrees F (USDA Zone 8),
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to mildew and blight, resistant to rust.
