summary: A mutation of Yataka which is itself a mutation of the Fuji. Developed by Ryozo Yahagi in Yamagata Prefecture (Japan) during the 1980s in a process that included top-grafting Yataka budwood onto Mollie's Delicious trees. In 1987, the grafts produced highly coloured fruit and he spent the next year tracing the source of the budwood back to the donor Yataka tree. A patent application was submitted in 1990. The mutation is highly coloured and ready for harvest concurrent with the Yataka and about 20 days earlier than the standard.
