identification: Large, round tending to conic with angular sides. The skin is greenish yellow maturing to lemon yellow, washed red and striped darker red on the sun exposed face. The calyx is medium size and open, set in a somewhat shallow and wide basin. The stem is very short somewhat stout, set in a deep cavity which is typically surrounded by a large patch of russet.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, firm, crisp and juicy. Sweet, sprightly and aromatic.
uses: A prized heritage cooking apple, well suited for pies and tarts, holding its shape.
origins: Originated in either Netherland or Belgium in the late 1700s.
