origins: This was grown from a pippin received from the Botanical Gardens in Petrograd (Russia) and raised by Niels Hansen at the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in Brookline, South Dakota (U.S.A.). It was introduced in 1919. The flower parent was Malus x Robusta which is a cross of Malus baccata and Malus prunifolia, the pollen parent is unknown.
