summary: Grown from a chance seedling, this crabapple has orange flesh and is sometimes listed as a red-flesh varietal.
identification: Small and round tending round conic, about the about halfway between of a golf ball and a baseball in size. The base colour is orange over which are patches of dark, almost wine-red and marked with scattered wide striping. The calyx is small and closed with long, narrow sepals, set in a shallow basin. The stem is long and slender, extending well beyond the crown of the stem cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is orange sometime richly orange. Dense and very sweet, flavourful and slightly tart.
origins: Found as a wild seedling growing along a roadside near Plainfield, New Hampshire (U.S.A.) by Jim Bastian.
cultivation: Vigorous.
cold storage: Does not store well.
harvest: Reported to be ready for harvest in the middle of the fourth period. Fruit hangs well for up to a month beyond.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
