summary: Widely grown in Russia as a commercial variety which resists bruising during transportation.
identification: Medium size, round to round conic. The skin is glossy, somewhat tough and waxy. Base colour is cream over which is a dense pattern of red stripes that extend the stem cavity to the basin. Striping is sparse on the shaded portion of the fruit. Marked with sparse lenticels. The stem is short and moderately Russet develops in the stem cavity extending to the shoulder of the apple.
characteristics: The flesh is white, fine-grained. Juicy and sweet-tart. Resists bruising in transportation.
origins: Central Russia, widely grown in Central Russia, but first documented in 1886 as being grown in Bashkortostan in the southern Urals. Described by the Sterlyaev Pterological Station and assigned the name Bashkirskaya krasavitsa in 1928.
cultivation: Young trees develop a rounded shape as they grown, but assume a pyramidal shape when mature. Partial tip bearer. Sensitive to drought.
cold storage: Keeps up to six months in cold storage.
