type: Dessert
identification: Small, ovate tending to conical with ribbing on the side and a distinct crown. The skin base colour is yellowish green over which are patches of brown russet and large dots of russet. Orange blush on the sun exposed face. The stalk is medium (3/4 inch) and set in a narrow cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, tender, crisp and very juicy. Sprightly and vinous.
uses: A highly regarded dessert apple.
origins: According to Robert Hogg, there was only one tree of this variety in the private garden of a Mr. Lee in Hammersmith and he was able to take some cuttings from a tree in its last stakes of decay.
cultivation: vigorous. Bears good crops on an annual basis.
ploidism: Self sterile.
