identification: Small, round to ovate. The skin is smooth and glossy with a deep yellow colour and broken, very pale red stripes on the sun exposed face. The eye is large with long petals and set in a somewhat shallow, narrow basin. The stem i long and slender, set in a deep, funnel shaped cavity which is sometimes russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is white, tender, crisp and juicy. Sprightly and somewhat astringent.
uses: Cooking. Holds its shape and turns lemon yellow when baked or cooked.
origins: Raised in 1850 by Samuel Bradley on the grounds of Elton Manor in Nottingham (UK) from a seed of Dumelow s Seedling. It was first shown at the May, 1859 meeting of the British Pomological Society.
