Balchin's Pearmain

identification: Medium size, roundish, narrowing to the apex. One side is often higher than the other. The skin is smooth with a base colour of lemon yellow over which are scattered pale crimson streaks on the shaded side and a blush of crimson on the sun exposed face with darker stripes. Scattered small brown lenticels. The stalk is short and slender and set in a shallow basin.
characteristics: The flesh is white, firm, crisp and very juicy. Sweet and flavourful.
uses: Most eaten fresh but can also be used for cooking.
