Baker's Delicious
type: Dessert
identification: Medium to large in size and round conic, faintly ribbed. Base colour is golden yellow over which is a bright orange flush. The eye is small and closed, set in a shallow and moderately wide basin which is slightly puckered. The stem is short and moderately slender, set in a deep and narrow cavity which tends to be green and russeted. Bruises easily.
characteristics: Flesh is cream in colour, firm and crisp. Juicy, sweet with some tartness. Aromatic. Very thin-skinned, bruises easily.
origins: Originated in Wales. Introduced by Baker's Nursery of Codsall/Codswell, Wolverhampton in Wales (U.K.) in 1932.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading. Partial tip bearer. Needs to be thinned at fruit set to ensure adequate size
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab and mildew but some tendency to canker.
