identification: Slightly larger than medium and even larger at times. Round to round conical in shape with ribs sometimes faintly visible.The skin is tender and smooth with a bright yellow base colour which is almost completely covered with deep red flush. Stripes of darker red are sometimes barely visible. Profuse light coloured dots overthe entire apple. Ocassionally there is russeting around the stem cavity. The stem is medium length and usually slender, set in a deep cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is yellow, firm, tender and juicy with a somewhat coarse texture. Decidedly sweet and with good flavour.
origins: According to apple authority S.A. Beach writing in "Apples of New York" (1905 edition), this apple may have originated in Perry, Wyoming County of western New York State (U.S.A.) during the 1840s.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous, upright spreading, tree, quite open. Grows slowly.
cold storage: Poor. Will keep a week or two at most.
vulnerabilities: Susceptible to scab.
ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.
