identification: Large, round conic. The base colour at maturity is yellow over which is a bright red wash covering about two thirds of the surface and fading to a diminishing pattern of red stripes. The calyx is small and partly open, set in a shallow, open basin which is lightly ribbed. The stem is moderately stout and moderately short, set in a deep, narrow cavity which is often russetted. Pale brown lenticels. The skin develops at waxy feel in storage.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, fine-grained and tender. Juicy, sweet and sprightly. Aromatic.
uses: Dessert apple also favoured for baking and cider.
origins: Developed in 1947 at Sweden's Balsgaard Fruit Breeding Institute by crossing Ingrid Marie x Filippa. Introduced in 1973.
cultivation: Vigorous, spreading. Tip bearer.
mutations: Amorosa is a coloured sport of Aroma.
cold storage: Keeps two months in storage.
harvest: Ready for harvest late in the fourth period.
