summary: A hard-fleshed, sweet-tart, red-fleshed apple from North America's Oregon State.
identification: Medium to large size. Round flattened. The base colour is greenish yellow, blushed pale orange and striped red. Marked with scattered, large white lenticels which are most visible against the base colour.
characteristics: Flesh is pale orange-red like an apricot, sometimes yellow. Coarse, hard and crisp. Sweet-tart. Distinct apricot flavour.
uses: Culinary apple that holds its shape when cooked. As a fresh eating apple, this one is flavourful, but extremely dense and hard.
origins: Found growing as a chance seedling in the late 1980s, near Salem in Oregon State (U.S.A.) by Lem Rombough.
cultivation: Bears fruit on both tips and spurs. Precocious. Needs thinning. Wet weather can affect both the colour and flavours.
cold storage: Keeps up to two months in cold storage.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to scab under normal growing conditions.
