identification: Its foremost characteristic is that it is a very large round-flattened apple producing fruit typically weighing 600 grams. The stem is short and stout, set in a deep and narrow, russeted cavity. The calyx is closed and set in a narrow, deep basin. The apple is slightly ribbed.
characteristics: The flesh white, fine-grained and somewhat soft in texture when fully ripe. Juicy, moderately sweet and somewhat tart.
origins: Discovered by Ivan V. Michurin in 1888 growing as a bud mutation on a branch of Antonovka Moghilyovskaya in Mogilev (Russia). Released to the market in 1892 following four years of testing. The tree itself is vigorous and the seedlings of this variety are commonly used as root stock in cooler climates.
