identification: Medium size tending to large and round conic, often lopsided. The base colour is green maturing to yellow with a brownish red wash covering less than half the surface. Lenticels are faint and only visible on the coloured face. The calyx is tight and almost closed, set in a moderately funnel shaped basin. The stem is medium length and thin in a moderately deep, funnel shaped cavity which is russeted with rays of russet edging up onto the shoulder.

origins: Originated in the Campania region of southern Italy, dating back to Roman times. Listed by Pliny the Elder as Mala Orcula in the year 79. First described as Annurca by Giuseppe Antonio Pasquale in 1876 Grown in southern Italy until the mid-1900s

harvest: Ready for harvest in the latter half of the fourth period.
notes: The traditional method for preparing these apples for market is to harvest them a week to ten days prior to ripening and then place them on a layer of straw in the sun for 10 days or so.
