identification: Medium to large, round and flattened. The base colour is green over which is a red wash that can cover as much as two thirds of the surface. Darker thin striping is barely discernable against the red, some striping is also present on the shaded face. Medium size lenticels are abundantly strewn across the red face. The calyx is large and open, set in a shallow basin surrounded by a lightly knobbed crown. The stem is very short and somewhat stout, set in a wide, moderately deep, green-russeted cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is white, crisp and moderately juicy. Slightly acidic with an aniseed flavour.
uses: A good fresh eating apple flavoured like the Cox's Orange Pippin.
origins: Developed in the Naarden area of Netherlands by S.A. Blijstra in 1914 by crossing Cox's Orange Pippin x Freiherr von Berlepsch. Introduced by the Rossem Nursery of Naarden in 1934.
cultivation: Moderately vigorous and spreading tree. Tip bearer.
harvest: During the first half of the fourth period.
notes: Remarkably similar to the Cox's Orange Pippin.
