Anders
type: Dessert
identification: Medium to large size. Round, slightly conic. At maturity, the base colour is yellow over which is a dense pattern of red stripes, primarily on the sun-exposed side and fading out on the shaded side. Some moderately large, light-coloured lenticels are scattered sparingly across the surface. The calyx is small and closed, set in a somewhat shallow basin which is surrounded by a low, lightly knobbed shoulder.. The stem is short and stout, set in a funnel shaped cavity which is sometimes russeted.
characteristics: The flesh is white, crisp and sweet with a mild tang. It tastes somewhat like a Granny Smith when it is under-ripe but mellows to a Fuji flavour.
uses: This apple is primarily grown for the supermarket trade.
origins: Discovered as a chance seedling near Somis, California (USA).

ploidism: Self fertile but crops best in the presence of a compatible source of pollen.
