identification: Round conic. Base colour is yellow, over which is a bright red blush covering up to two thirds of the surface. Some darker broken striping. The calyx is small and slightly open, set in a moderately deep basin surrounded by a faintly knobbed crown. The stem is slender and moderately long in a deep and funnel shaped, russet-lined cavity.
characteristics: sweet, crisp and juicy
origins: This apple was among many wild seedlings found growing along bicycle paths on Schiermonnikoog and collected in 1990 by Dutch pomologist Tijs Visser with the intention of finding flavourful eating apples with with a high level of resistance to scab. Schiermonnikoog is part of the West Frisian Island group off the coast of Netherlands.
