synonyms: Baldwin (not the cultivar of the same name) Kehdinger Rambour, Massmutterapfel, Sommerbaldwin, Ülzener Rambour
identification: Medium to large size. The base colour is yellow, marked with a heavy overcolouring of bright red stripes on all but the shaded faces and around the basin. The calyx is mderately large and partly open, set in a shallow and wide basin. The stem is short and medium thickness, set in a deep and tight cavity. Light coloured lenticels are scattered across the surface.
characteristics: The flesh is yellowish, dense. Juicy, sweet-tart and aromatic.
origins: A chance seedling found in the garden near Ülzen in northern Germany prior to 1900 and quickly became distributed through the region. With a variety of local names/synonyms in use, an attempt was made to standardize the name of the variety, with the decision to use Alter Hannoveraner as the proper listing.
