identification: Medium to large and round in shape with angular sides. Skin base colour is light green over which is a dense pattern of red and orange stripes, sometimes intense enough to appear as a blush, extending from the shoulder onto the face, predominantly on the sun exposed face. The calyx is small and tight, set in a deep and narrow basin surrounded by a distinct, knobbed crown. The stem is short in a moderately shallow and wide cavity.
characteristics: Flesh is pale cream in colour, firm and juicy with a bit of a tang with raspberry flavours. Tough skinned.

origins: This cultivar was first recorded by Swedish pomologist Olof Eneroth in 1858 who speculated that it was either found as a chance seedling at the Akero Mansion south of Stockholm or else it was introduced from Holland in the mid-1750s. Parentage unknown.
cultivation: Vigorous, upright-spreading spur bearer. It crops well on an annual basis. Hardy to Zone 3.
cold storage: Keeps only a short while, even in refrigeration.
harvest: Ripe toward the end of the third period.
notes: Widely regarded as Sweden's best eating apple.
