identification: Small, round apples. The base colour is green over which is a streaked deep red flush on the sun-exposed face. The stem is long and stout, set in a somewhat deep and narrow cavity. The calyx is small, partly open with upright foliage, set in a narrow and shallow basin.
characteristics: The flesh is greenish. Sweet, sharp, with a moderate level of tannins.
uses: Used for making apple sauce, also cider.
origins: According to the Welsh Perry & Cider Society, this apple was found growing as a wilding in the gardens of Ashfield Community Enterprise in Howey at Llandrindod Wells in Wales (U.K.).
