identification: Medium to large size, round to flat and often lopsided. Green with a wash of brownish red on the sun-exposed face, usually less than one third of the total surface. Abundant, large white lenticels. The calyx is small, tightly closed, set in a wide basin. The stem is short (rising just to the level of the shoulders) and stout in a wide and medium-deep cavity.
characteristics: The flesh is pale greenish, often with green stains. Coarse-grained, acidic.
origins: Raised from seed by A.D.W. Atkins of Exmouth in Devon (U.K.) in about 1971.
