synonyms: Malus Admiration. Sometimes confused with an American eating apple by the name of Adirondack .
summary: An ornamental crabapple with rich pink buds and clusters of white flowers. The fruit develops in clusters of orange-red crabs about the size of acorns and they hang on the tree well into winter. Not intended for human consumption.
identification: Fruits are about 1 centimetre in diameter, intensely red. Abundant and clustered.
uses: Ornamental crab. Used heavily by birds once the first frost have hit them. Tend to become mushy.
origins: An open-pollinated seedling of Hall Crab (Malus Halliana). Selected by Don Egolf at the United States National Arboretum in Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) in 1974 and released in 1985
cultivation: Upright inverted cone, growth to about 3.6 meters in height. Does best in hardiness zones 4 to 8. Prefers moist but well drained soils, but also drought tolerant.
vulnerabilities: Resistant to most diseases, including scab.
notes: One of the most heavily flowered crabs.
