A.C. Red Russet
summary: This is one of the many apple varieties from the collection of the late Nick Botner who, over the course of four decades, collected and cultivated well over 4,500 varieties of apples (as well as pears, plums, grapes and cherries) on his 0.4-hectare property near Yoncalla, Oregon (U.S.A). Many were established cultivars, some were heirloom varieties, among them were varieties developed by hobbyists and a few were simply good apples that developed naturally and were found growing strong without help or nurturing. In 2010, at age 84, Nick gave up his collection to the Temperate Orchard Conservancy which has been working diligently to trace down the roots of some the varieties and also maintain the collection. Nick Botner passed away on February 13, 2020 at age 93.
