summary: An American heritage apple that dates to the early 1800s. Juicy and sweet.
identification: Medium size, round tending slightly to conic. The base colour is dull green over which are red stripes and blush. Some russet patches and marked with white and red lenticels. The stem is medium length and thickness, set in a shallow cavity which is usually russetted. The calyx is somewhat large and open.
characteristics: The flesh is white, coarse-grained, tender and melting. Very sweet and juicy. Mild flavour.
origins: Found as a chance seedling New Hampshire (U.S.A.) sometime in the early 1800s and first listed in Doctor John A. Warder's " American Pomology: Apples" (published 1867).
cultivation: Vigorous.
cold storage: Keeps three months in cold storage.
harvest: Ready for harvest toward the end of the third period.
notes: There is also a pear called Abbott which originated in Rhode Island
