summary: A heritage dessert apple that was grown in the Aachen region of Germany during the early 1800s. Considered to be scarce nowadays.
identification: Small to medium size, round-flattened. The base colour varies from greenish yellow to bright yellow at full ripeness, marked with a pattern of bright red to deep red stripes over three-quarters of more of the surface. The calyx is large and partly open, set in a puckered, somewhat shallow basin. The stem is .medium long to long, medium thick and set in a somewhat deep, russetted cavity. A network of russet can extend onto the face of the apple .
characteristics: The flesh is cream-coloured, sometimes pale yellow. Coarse-grained, firm and juicy. Sweet and slightly tangy.
origins: Believed to have originated as a chance seedling raised by Carl Cornely, mayor of Rimburg in the Aachen region of Germany, adjacent to Belgium and Holland. The variety was already well established at the time of Pomologist Adrian Diel's listing in 1816 under the name of Cornely’s Gestreifter Hausapfel,
cultivation: Vigorous and upright spreading, pronounced spherical growth. Precocious, but tends to bear fruit every other year when mature. Fruit hangs well at ripeness.
