summary: A large, sweet apple developed in eastern Canada for the commercial trade.
identification: Large tending to very large. Prominently ribbed and slightly crowned, often lightly russseted around the calyx basin. Base colour is pale yellow over which is a red blush which covers as much as half the surface, in addition to a pattern of deep red striping. The skin is lightly bloomed as the apple ripens and a slight greasiness can also develop. The stem is medium thick and set in a deep and wide cavity. The calyx is medium size, set in a moderately deep and wide basin. Scattered small to medium size lenticels.
characteristics: The flesh is cream coloured and moderately firm.
origins: Developed by Charles Embree at the Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada Station in Kentville, Nova Scotia in 1985 from a cross of Kestral with an experimental variety S17-01-02 and ultimately selected for colour, firmness, flavour and shelf life.
cultivation: Vigorous, upright spreading. Bears fruit o spurs and shoots.
