Identification: Large, oblong.The base colour is yellow, washed to about 90% with solid red. The calyx is set in a moderately deep basin. The stem is long, set in a moderately deep and slightly russetted cavity.

Characteristics: The flesh is cream-colour, crisp, firm and juicy. Aromatic and sprightly.

Cultivation: Weak to moderately vigorous spreading tree. Spur bearer. Moderate harvests with a tendency to bear every other year.

Ploidism: Diploid. Self sterile.

Notes: 8S-26-50, 8S-27-73, 8S-69-23 and Chinook all came from a cross pollination of Splendour with Gala (Kidd s D.8 Strain)

Vulnerabilities: Very susceptible to quince rust and cedar apple rust. Moderately susceptible to powdery mildew. Both leaves and fruit are susceptible to scab. Resistant to blight.
